It's a-comin'. A day of pinkness to raise awareness for LGBTQ youth, started by a few teen allies in Eastern Canada who watched a friend being chastized for wearing a pink shirt to his high school. Now, thanks to Jer's Vision and the Government of Ontario, it's a big thing.
For me, growin' up gay wasn't so much about what colour shirt I wore. Sure, it sucked being called out for wearing something other people didn't like, but there were days when I felt like the inside of me was actually screaming to be heard. I grew up in a place that felt completely unsafe to wear what I wanted, be who I wanted, do what I wanted.
I'm so grateful for initiatives which encourage us all to be ourselves - or at least be a little closer to our selves.
I'll be wearing pink this Wednesday. Anyone care to join me?
(So many thanks to my biggest fan, Tanya Korostil for the pic.)
